Need to reach your own computer when nobody is sitting at it — your office PC, your home computer while travelling, or a server in the corner? DeskOne has unattended access for that: the computer accepts connections even at the Windows sign-in screen, and only someone who knows its personal password can get in.
Unattended remote access to a computer
No one-time password and nobody at the screen — just the machine’s personal password
How a normal connection works
By default DeskOne shows an ID and a one-time password. The person at the computer reads them out to you, and when you connect they confirm access and choose the permissions: full control or view only. That is great for helping family, but it does not work when nobody is at the computer.
What unattended access adds
Windows sign-in screen
Connections are accepted by a service running with system rights, so the sign-in screen, administrator prompts (UAC) and Ctrl+Alt+Del are available.
After signing out
The computer keeps responding even if the user has signed out of Windows or the computer has been restarted.
Personal password
A permanent password for the machine. Only a derivative of the password is stored on disk, so stealing the file does not reveal the password.
How to set up access without confirmation
- Open Settings → This machine on the computer you will connect to.
- Turn on “Accept connections when nobody is at the computer”. This requires Windows administrator rights.
- Set a personal password — at least 8 characters. The arrows button generates a strong password for you; write it down, it will not be shown again.
- Choose the permissions for the personal password: full control or view only.
- Turn on autostart under Advanced, so DeskOne starts with Windows and waits for connections from the system tray.
Trusted operators
If you allow an operator to remember your computer, they are added to the trusted list and can then connect without a password — but each connection still needs your consent. The Revoke button works instantly: an ongoing session with that operator ends within a second.
Security
- Without the personal password or trusted-operator status nobody can connect to an unattended machine: there is no one to read out a one-time password at the sign-in screen.
- Sessions are encrypted end to end; the DeskOne server only helps the machines find each other.
- Permissions for the personal password can be limited to view only.
- You can turn unattended access off at any time — again with administrator rights.
FAQ
Can I connect to a computer without confirmation?
Yes, if unattended access is enabled and a personal password is set on it. Whoever knows the personal password connects without confirmation on the other side, with the permissions you chose in settings.
Can I connect to a computer that is turned off?
No. The computer must be on and connected to the internet. After a restart it is available again if autostart and unattended access are enabled.
Do I need a license for unattended access?
The free-mode limit — 2 hours of connection per day — applies to all connections. To connect without a time limit, install a license on the computer.
