DeskOne settings are split into six tabs: Account, This machine, Connection, Advanced, License and About. Here is what you will find where, and which options are worth turning on.

Account

Profile, password, active sign-ins.

This machine

How others connect to this computer.

Connection

What to ask of the other machine when you connect.

Advanced

Autostart, video, log and your own servers.

Account

  • Profile: the name people you connect to will see, and a profile photo (JPG, GIF or PNG up to 5 MB).
  • Change password. After a change, all other sign-ins to the account are ended — if someone learned your password, their sessions close.
  • Active sign-ins: a list of computers where your account is open. An unfamiliar sign-in can be ended with one click.
  • Sign in with Google — no separate password.
  • Sign out and delete account; deletion is permanent and requires confirmation.

This machine: how others connect to this computer

  • Machine name — how this computer appears in connection requests and in operators’ recent lists.
  • Unattended access — accept connections when nobody is at the computer, including at the Windows sign-in screen. More about unattended access.
  • One-time password length — short is easier to read out over the phone, long is more secure. A new password is generated every time DeskOne starts.
  • Personal password — a permanent password for unattended access, at least 8 characters. Only a derivative of it is stored on disk.
  • Permissions for the personal password — full control or view only.
  • Trusted operators — people you allowed to remember this computer. They connect without a password but with your consent; revoking takes effect instantly.

Connection: what happens to the other machine during a session

Setting What it does
Blank its screen People near the remote computer cannot see what you are doing
Lock its mouse and keyboard Nobody at that machine can take over control
Hide wallpaper A plain desktop: less traffic, faster response
Show its cursor You see where the person at that machine is pointing
Clipboard and files Copy and paste text, files and folders between computers
Recent connections Clear the list of IDs you have connected to

Screen blanking and input lock work only with full control and are undone at the end of the session — even if the app closes unexpectedly. Image quality, sound, microphone and full screen are changed right in the session bar and remembered automatically. All session features.

Advanced

  • Start with Windows — DeskOne launches by itself, without a window, as a tray icon, and accepts connections. Closing the window hides the app to the tray.
  • Video via the graphics card — lower latency: frames are processed by the GPU.
  • Log — normal or detailed, for troubleshooting.
  • Your own signaling server and TURN relay — for those with their own infrastructure. The relay is a fallback when a direct connection is not possible.

License

The License tab shows whether the app is activated and displays this computer’s code. The key you receive after purchase is entered here with the Activate button. License pricing.
