How to connect to a remote computer with DeskOne, and what to do if the connection fails. A step-by-step guide for the first time, plus an explanation of common messages in the app.

How to set up remote access to a computer

Two installs · ID and password · confirmation on the other side

Connecting for the first time

  1. Install DeskOne on both computers: the one you connect from and the one you connect to. Download and install.
  2. On the remote computer, open DeskOne. The main window shows this computer’s ID and a one-time password. Ask the person to read them out to you.
  3. On your computer, enter the ID in the “Connect to another computer” field, click “Connect”, then enter the session password.
  4. On the remote computer a connection request appears. The person confirms access and chooses the permissions: full control or view only.
  5. Done. The other machine’s screen opens in the session window: use your mouse and keyboard, while the command panel gives you files, sound, restart and more. All features.

Connecting without a password and without anyone at the computer

If you connect to your own computer regularly, you do not have to ask for a password every time:

  • Trusted operator. The person at the computer allows you to remember the machine, and you then connect without a password — still with their consent.
  • Unattended access. Turned on under Settings → This machine together with a permanent personal password. The computer responds even at the Windows sign-in screen. Step-by-step setup.
  • Autostart. Settings → Advanced → Start with Windows: DeskOne launches by itself and waits for connections from the system tray.

Remote access won’t connect: what to do

“No connection to the DeskOne server. Check your internet connection”

The app cannot reach the server that helps computers find each other by ID. Check that websites open on this computer. On an office network, a proxy or firewall may block access — ask the administrator to allow deskone.ru. Antivirus software sometimes blocks remote access tools too; add DeskOne to the exceptions.

“Wrong password”

The one-time password changes every time DeskOne starts on the other machine. If the app was restarted there or the computer rebooted, the old password will not work — ask for the current one.

“The host declined the connection”

The person at the remote computer clicked Decline in the request window. You can send a new request after DeskOne is restarted on that machine.

The computer does not respond when nobody is at it

By default DeskOne accepts connections only while a user is signed in to Windows and the app is running. To connect after sign-out or a restart, turn on unattended access and autostart. The computer must still be on and online.

“Remembered access to this machine failed — enter the password”

The computer’s owner removed you from the trusted operators. Connect with a password and, if needed, ask them to let you remember the machine again.

“A session with this host is already running”

A session window to this computer is already open. Close it to connect again.

“The free 2 hours a day are used up on the controlled machine”

Without a license DeskOne works 2 hours a day on the computer being connected to. The limit resets tomorrow, and a license removes it completely.

Ctrl+Alt+Del or administrator prompts don’t work

The sign-in screen, administrator prompts (UAC) and Ctrl+Alt+Del are available only when connections on that machine are accepted by the DeskOne service. Turn on “Accept connections when nobody is at the computer” there.

The picture lags

Choose a more economical quality mode in the session bar and turn on “Hide wallpaper” under Settings → Connection. If a direct connection between the computers is not possible, DeskOne goes through a relay — reliable, but the response may be slightly slower.
